Aircraft Design & Manufacture

Gippsland Aeronautics is one of the few organisations in Australia with Civil Aviation Safety Authority approvals to both design and manufacture aircraft.

The development and manufacture by the company of two highly efficient and successful General Aviation aircraft, the GA200 aerial application aircraft and the GA8 Airvan utility transport aircraft have positively demonstrated the company’s abilities.

ENGINEERING CAPABILITY

The company's Engineering Department design office is a CASA Approved Design Organization which has the in house capability to design, develop, prove compliance and manufacture aircraft from first principles.

GA8 Airvan:
The Engineering Department has achieved full Type Certification for the GA8 Airvan to FAR 23 Amendment 54 standard (Normal Category) by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA and has received Type Certificates or Type Acceptance Certificates for the type from the following countries:

  • Belize
  • Botswana
  • Canada
  • Costa Rica
  • Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Europe (EASA Type Certification) including:
    • UK
    • France
    • Germany
    • Holland
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Kenya
  • Lesotho
  • Mexico
  • Malawi
  • Mozambique
  • New Zealand
  • Papua New Guinea
  • South Africa
  • Tanzania
  • United Arab Emirates

GA200 Agricultural Aircraft:
The Engineering Department has also achieved full Type Certification for the GA200 Agricultural aircraft to FAR 23 Amendment 36 by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the US Federal Aviation Authority (Restricted Category) and has received Type Certificates and Type Acceptance Certificates for the GA200 Agricultural Aircraft from the following countries:

  • Canada
  • China
  • Brazil
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa

Supplemental Type Certificates:
Apart from the two aircraft designs the Engineering Department were also achieved the following supplementary certificate of type approval for

  • PA 25 Pawnee - Modifications for two seat configuration.
  • PA 25 Pawnee - Fuel Tank and safety enhancements
  • Various re-engining projects
  • PA 31 Navajo & Chieftain - Wing spar life extension
  • Seat design to comply with 26g & 21g dynamic crash requirement.

 MANUFACTURING CAPABILTY

The Manufacturing Department is a CASA approved Manufacturing Organization with the following capabilities;

  • CNC Punch Press machine.
  • Rubber press.
  • Sheet metal forming and assembly.
  • Aircraft Painting and protective coatings
  • Fibreglass
  • Welding
  • Perspex forming.
  • Machining.
  • Avionics

MAINTENANCE AND MODIFICATION

The company’s CASA approved Maintenance Department carries out routine maintenance, field maintenance, modifications and repairs including substantial re-build projects on a wide range of general aviation aircraft. To date 60 PA31 series aircraft have had the wing spar life extension modification carried out with a current rate of 12 aircraft per year being processed.

The Maintenance Division offers a complete aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul service, specializing in the Gippsland Aeronautics GA8 Airvan, GA200, Nomad N22 & N24, PZL-M-18 Dromader and Piper singles and twins and Cessna single engine types.
