The Minister for Manufacturing & Export Tim Holding inducted Gippsland Aeronautics, Australia's leading manufacturer of commercial Aircraft, into the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame, at a gala dinner held in Melborne on Wednesday 19 May 2004.
This is a major event on the manufacturing calendar for the year with over 800 local and international guests attending.
Victoria's Manufacturing Hall of Fame recognises outstanding achievements in Victorian manufacturing.
The Government established the Hall of Fame in June 2000 to recognise, reward and celebrate the world-class achievements of Victorian manufacturers whose innovative and sophisticated solutions to global manufacturing issues have made them world leaders.
The Manufacturing Hall of Fame showcases Victoria as Australia's centre for manufacturing excellence, raising the national and international profile of successful Victorian companies.
The Hall offers three levels of recognition:
* Certificate of Manufacturing Excellence for Manufacturers who have received awards from the Industry Association or other recognised industry bodies;
* Induction into the Hall for sustained manufacturing excellence; and
* Registration on the Hall's Honour Roll for individuals, organisations and companies acknowledged by the Manufacturing Industry Consultative Council as having made exceptional contributions to Victorian manufacturing excellence.
"Victoria's manufacturers play a vital role, creating employment, driving exports and setting the pace with new technology and innovation," Mr Holding said.
"The Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame provides a great way of ensuring our star performers get the recognition they deserve.
"It acknowledges outstanding manufacturing achievement and helps to inspire others in the sector to fresh heights."
Co Founder and Director George Morgan received the award on behalf of Gippsland Aeronautics. Also in attendance from Gippsland Aeronautics were Chairman Gary Wight, Finance Director Mark Burgin, Production Manager Glenn Pywell, Engineering Manager Mark Bathie and Sales Manager Marguerite Morgan.
Gippsland Aeronautics Chairman Gary Wight said,
