Gippsland Aeronautics today announced that it has received European Aviation Safety Agency for the GA 8 Airvan aircraft.
EASA certification is an important achievement for the Australian company as it opens the door for sales of the rugged eight seat utility aircraft in the 25 countries comprising the European Union.
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), based in Cologne, was set up by the EU in 2003 to promote the highest common standards of safety and environmental protection in civil aviation. The Agency's main tasks include the certification of aircraft and equipment as well as the approval of design, production and maintenance organisations. EASA drafts common rules and procedures in the area of aviation safety and provides technical expertise to the EU and its partners.
Gippsland is in the final stages of negotiation of a substantial order with a German operator and has received serious interest from parachute operators in the UK.
The Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority first certified the Airvan in 2000 with the US FAA and Transport Canada following in 2003. To date 75 Airvans have been delivered to customers in 13 different countries from Africa to Alaska.
